Due to the nature of laboratory experiments, it is necessary to adapt a set of safety guidelines in order to prevent any potential injuries. THESE GUIDELINES MUST NOT BE BROKEN. Failure to comply may result in the loss of a letter grade on the lab report or NO CREDIT AT ALL.
FOR ALL LAB WORK:
2. Know how to locate and operate all safety equipment, including the fire blanket, fire extinguisher, and eye wash.
3. No horseplay, running, or other behavior that can be dangerous in the lab.
4. Tie long hair back and secure any loose fitting clothing or jewelry.
5. Never eat or drink in the lab.
6. Wash your hands if they come in contact with any chemicals and after each activity.
7. Keep work area free of any unnecessary items.
8. Wash utensils thoroughly and put away after use.
9. Never smell or taste any chemicals unless instructed to do so by the teacher.
10. Do not experiment or mix chemicals on your own.
11. When using scissors or razor blades, cut away from yourself.
12. Clearly label all containers with the names of the materials you are using during the activity.
13. Do not pick up broken glass with your hands. Sweep it into the "broken glass" container.
14. Use extreme caution when working with an open flame.
15. Report ALL accidents to the teacher immediately.
16. STOP TALKING AND PAY ATTENTION WHEN I SIGNAL.
