Grading:
Grades will be based on the following percentage scale:
HOMEWORK .............................. 10%
LAB WORK ................................. 30%
TESTS ......................................... 40%
PARTICIPATION ..................... 20%
Letter grades will be assigned according to the standardized scale of the District of Edison’s grading policy.

Homework:

A small H.W. assignment will be given almost every night.     However, you can do some assignments ahead of time by using     the syllabus.
H.W. is checked/collected unannounced once a week.
Late H.W. can be turned in for half credit until the end of the     chapter.
Incomplete H.W. will NOT be accepted.
Lab work:
If you are absent you must make up the lab after school within 1     week.
Lab procedures will be discussed in lab.
Tests:
There are about 3 unit tests and 1 marking period test per     marking period. Each test is broken down into two multiple     choice sections and one essay section. You might even get    extra credit, if the "Magic 8 ball" likes you.
If you are absent you must make up the test after school within 1     week or you will receive an F. THIS IS YOUR     RESPONSIBILITY!
Once every marking period, you will have the option of taking an     ALTERNATIVE TEST in place of a standard test. However, it     must be based on the chapter we are studying. This assignment     must be approved by me before we begin the chapter. Alternative testing includes:
written report- 3 pages typed with work cited
    oral report- 7 minute speech
presentation- poster, model, slides, or video
Remember: Study Hard! Extra Help is always available after     school.
Participation:
You get 75 points every day if you:
    a. come to class on time and wait for me to dismiss you
    b. bring your book, notebook, and a pencil
    c. begin the "Do Now" task before I finish taking attendance
You can gain points during class by answering questions correctly.
You can also lose points during class if you:
    a. are not paying attention
    b. talk or write notes
    c. pack up early
A typical student's grade might look like this,
HOMEWORK .............................. 90% avg. (90 x .1)  = 9
LAB WORK ................................. 85% avg. (85 x .3)  = 25.5
TESTS ......................................... 70% avg. (70 x .4)  = 28
PARTICIPATION ..................... 80% avg. (80 x .2)  = 16 +
78.5% or C+ If the same student did only one third of the H.W. (30 x .1),     he/she might only receive a C-.
Again, by not participating (40 x .2), he/she might also get a C-.
Not doing H.W. or participating WILL have an impact on your      grade!
A Dunkin’ Donuts Party!:
One class per marking period will win Dunkin’ Donuts for the entire class!
The class which receives the most awards per marking period, EATS UP!
Awards include:
Fantastic Attitude Award- given to the most cooperative class.
